UH Students Helping Keep Houston Beautiful During 'Rock the Block' April 5

UH Metropolitan Volunteer Program Working with Community to Clean Third Ward

A collection of Cougars will contribute to a community cleanup project this weekend.

The Metropolitan Volunteer Program (MVP) at the University of Houston is among the community partners helping rid the Third Ward of trash and debris during “Rock the Block.” The cleanup (coordinated in conjunction with Keep Houston Beautiful Day) will run from 8:30 a.m. – noon, Saturday, April 5, to assist the neighbors of the Agape Center (6401 Calhoun Road).

During “Rock the Block,” MVP will partner with the Southeast Houston Transformation Alliance, GO Neighborhoods and Agape Development Ministries. Volunteers from these organizations will work together in cleaning the area. Following an afternoon of community beautification, volunteers can celebrate their accomplishments with a block party from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Festivities will include a cookout, music, children’s activities and more.

Founded in 1989, the Metropolitan Volunteer Program is a student-run organization that provides service opportunities for UH students.  MVP’s events provide students with the opportunity to make a positive impact on campus and in the community, to gain leadership skills, build relationships with fellow students,  and gain experience in their field of interest.
