Moores School of Music, UH Mourning Loss of Professor Emeritus Bob Lynn

The University of Houston is mourning the loss of Moores School of Music (MSM) professor emeritus Robert Lynn. Lynn passed away this week following a long illness.

Lynn taught musicology at UH from 1971 – 97. Many MSM faculty members learned from Lynn, who regularly taught Introduction to Musicology. For several years, Lynn also contributed his talents to the role of director of graduate studies.

In 1982, he became the first music director of Bach Society Houston and worked with that organization until 2004.

“Without a doubt, Bob played an important part in the development of the school. He will be missed,” said MSM director David Ashley White.

Bach Society Houston will perform Bach’s “B Minor Mass” in Lynn’s memory at 6 p.m., Feb. 16 at the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts. A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m., March 8 at Christ Cathedral Church (1117 Texas Ave.).
