Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz to Visit UH

Moniz Will Tour Wind Energy, Device Fabrication Centers

Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz will visit the University of Houston’s Energy Research Park Wednesday (March 5) to tour some of its energy-related research programs. There will be a brief media availability during the visit.

Moniz, a nuclear physicist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, was confirmed as Energy Secretary last year; he also served as a deputy energy secretary during the Clinton administration.

He will start his tour in the Petroleum Engineering program for an update on the University’s subsea engineering program – UH offers the nation’s only master’s degree in subsea engineering – and the school’s work with the Ocean Energy Safety Institute, a partnership with Texas A&M University and the University of Texas at Austin to improve safety in offshore  drilling.

He also will tour the National Wind Energy Center and the superconducting facilities in the Energy Device Fabrication Laboratory at the Energy Research Park.
