Urban Policy Challenges: Latinos in Houston's Growing Economy, Subject of April 15 Talk

With the dynamic growth Houston has enjoyed, what role will Latinos play in sustaining that? The University of Houston Center for Mexican American Studies (CMAS) welcomes Professor David Diaz, director of urban studies at California State University, Los Angeles, to discuss “Houston’s Economy, Urban Policy Challenges and the Central Role of Latinos in the Future of Wealth Generation of the Region.”  

The event is planned for 1 p.m., Wednesday, April 15 in the UH Student Center South, room 224. The event is free and open to the public. A question and answer session will follow his remarks. 

Diaz will discuss the need for community engagement and appropriate urban revitalization. Additionally, he’ll discuss public policy to integrate and involve multicultural leadership that includes the growing Latino communities. 

An expert in urban planning and environmental impact analysis, Diaz has authored several books on the urban challenges facing Latinos, including “Barrio Urbanism,” “Latino Urbanism,” contributed to the book “Asian and Latino Immigrants in a Restructuring Economy,” and was co-editor of the collection  “Social Policy: A Participatory Research Model.”
