Women in Energy Panel Set for Monday at UH

Women Executives Will Address Changing Roles, Effects of Falling Oil Prices

Energy may still be a male-dominated field, but that’s changing. A panel of women energy executives will talk about the changing participation of women in the industry and what skill sets are needed for particular industry jobs during a panel discussion Monday, Jan. 26, at the University of Houston.

Speakers will also discuss the effects of the falling price of oil on women’s employment in the coming year. The panel is sponsored by the UH Friends of Women’s Studies Barbara Karkabi Living Archives Series.

Panelists include Decie Autin, upstream synergies manager for ExxonMobil Development Company; Nisha Desai, vice president, NRG Distributed Generation; Sue Payne, who recently retired from Exxon Mobil Corp. and whose career included a stint as manager of global geoscience for ExxonMobil Production, and Cynthia L. Walker, executive vice president for strategy and development at Occidental Petroleum Corporation.

Leah Barton, head of operations strategy for Direct Energy, will serve as moderator.

The event is free for UH students and members of Friends of Women’s Studies, and $10 for the general public. Members of the media should contact Jeannie Kever at 713-743-0778 or jekever@uh.edu. RSVP at wgss@uh.edu.
