UH Opera Singers Delivering Show Tunes for Annual Fundraiser

“What’s Opera Duck?” Spotlights University Moores Opera Center Talents at Houston’s Mucky Duck

The rising opera stars at the University of Houston are taking their voices off campus. For one night, UH’s Moores Opera Center singers will deliver a mix of show tunes and opera repertoire at one of Houston’s most popular lounges.

It’s time once again for the Moores Opera Center’s annual fundraiser, “What’s Opera, Duck?” The singing starts at 7:30 p.m., Sept. 22 on the stage of the Mucky Duck (2425 Norfolk St.). More than 20 UH performers will take the stage performing Broadway standards, contemporary compositions and opera favorites. Audiences also can hear a preview of the Moores Opera Center’s first production of the 2015 – 16 season, “Manon.” Buck Ross, director of the Moores Opera Center, will serve as emcee and will make a rare singing appearance.

Tickets for “What’s Opera, Duck?” are $20 online and $22 at the door. Tickets are on sale now through the Mucky Duck website.

Singers and works to be performed include:

  • “15 Pounds” performed by Laura Lisk
  • “Donde lieta” (from “La Bohème”) performed by Kaylie Kahlich
  • “Sit Down You’re Rockin’ the Boat” performed by Avery Rabon
  • “Dein ist mein ganzes Herz” (from “The Land of Smiles”) performed by Patrick Robertson
  • “Back to Before” (from “Ragtime”) performed by Molly Mustonen
  • “Gorgeous” (from “The Apple Tree”) performed by Danielle Wojcik

“What’s Opera, Duck?” not only supports UH’s award-winning opera program, it offers Houstonians a preview of the talents that will take the stage of the Moores Opera House this season.

For its 2015 – 16 season, the Moores Opera Center will present “Manon” by Jules Massenet (Oct. 23 -26), “La Rondine” by Giacomo Puccini (Jan. 28 – 31), “Così fan tutte” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (Jan. 29 – Feb. 1) and “Anna Karenina” by David Carlson (Aug. 8 – 11).
