Sometimes, it’s not the entrée or dessert that makes a meal truly memorable. It’s the company of kindred spirits sharing laughs or learning something new over food and drink that often make for the most unforgettable dinners.

For 24 years, the University of Houston Honors College has taken this recipe to heart and served up a mix of gourmet dinners and delightful discussions during its annual fundraiser “The Great Conversation.”

This year’s event will take place on Wednesday, March 30, at the Houston Country Club (1 Potomac Drive). Cocktails begin at 6:30 p.m., with dinner and conversations starting at 7 p.m.

Guests select from a variety of dinner topics facilitated by UH faculty and others. Subjects include energy, social media, politics, craft beer, sports, religion, music and more. A sampling is as follows:

  • “New Mexico: Land of Enchantment” – William Monroe, dean of UH’s Honors College
  • “Intercollegiate Athletics” – Hunter Yurachek, UH vice president for athletics
  • “Reinventing Retirement” – Ted Estess, Jane Morin Cizik Chair and founding dean of the Honors College
  • “Whiskies of the World” – Andrew Davis, director of the Moores School of Music
  • “Fifty Shades of Red: UH Facts and Stories” – Simon Bott, director of Honors in the Health Professions

Doug and Sarah Foshee and Stan and Reinnette Marek are event co-chairs. For reservations or details, contact Hannah Burris Barker at hmburris@central.uh.edu or 713-743-3220.

Honors College alumna Jane Cizik envisioned “The Great Conversation” as a vehicle to share the Honors College’s talents with the community. Each year, the event brings together faculty members, alumni, friends, donors and students. Proceeds benefit Honors College scholarships and programs.
