Electric cars, driverless cars, Uber and Lyft – the ways in which we get around already is changing as people explore alternatives to the internal combustion engine and personal car ownership. The final debate in the 2015-16 Energy Symposium Series will explore those and other potential game-changers.
“Navigating the Future of Personal Transportation” is set for 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 29, in the Houston Room at the University of Houston Student Center South. The debate is free and open to the public. For more details or to register, click here.
Driverless cars are being tested in Austin and California, and some people concerned about their carbon footprint have invested in electric cars. The high gasoline prices of a few years ago propelled some companies to invest in natural gas-fueled fleets. But for those and other innovations to become more widely adopted will require new policies, regulations and infrastructure.
Speakers will include:
- Quincy Allen, district engineer for the Houston district of the Texas Department of Transportation.
- Emil H. Frankel, a consultant on transportation policy and public management issues, senior fellow at the Eno Center for Transportation and a senior advisor for Crosswater Realty Advisors.
- Ken Laberteaux, senior principal scientist for the Toyota Research Institute-North America.
- Joshua L. Schank, chief innovation officer at the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority.
