Hobby School Hosts Discussion of Trump Administration’s First 100 Days

A luncheon to benefit the University of Houston Hobby School of Public Affairs Leland Fellows program will feature a discussion about the first 100 days of the Trump administration.

The luncheon is set for 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 2, at the Julia Ideson Library Reading Room, 550 McKinney Street. It will feature a panel of distinguished political journalists: Abby Phillip of the Washington Post, Tim Carney of the Washington Examiner and David Jackson of USA Today. Julie Mason, host of Sirius XM Radio’s Press Pool and former White House correspondent for Politico, will serve as moderator.

The Leland Fellows, named for the late U.S. Rep. Mickey Leland, is one of the Hobby School’s signature programs, providing undergraduate students experience in the nation’s capital as interns in the U.S. House of Representatives.  The program provides a monthly stipend, airfare and housing, allowing students who can’t afford to take an unpaid internship the opportunity to participate. They earn between three and 12 hours of academic credit in political science.

“Leland Fellows go on to work in government, business and the nonprofit sector, carrying the experience into all phases of civic life,” said Renée Cross, associate director of the Hobby School and director of the Leland Fellows program. “In the spirit of the program’s namesake, Leland Fellows alumni are making an impact not only locally, but globally.”
